Physical Therapist

Washington, DC - Full Time

We are seeking Physical Therapists to join our teams across the US supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by integrating concepts of Whole Health into their plans. This includes incorporating examination findings with the patient's preferences in order to set clinically appropriate treatment goals, optimize outcomes, optimize functional independence and to actionize concepts of whole person care. The incumbent will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose movement dysfunction by listening to patients and observing them as they move. Develop an individualized treatment plan.
  • Coach patients and teach them therapeutic exercises and stretches to improve their condition. Using exercises, stretching, equipment and hands-on therapy to manage patients’ pain, increase mobility and prevent further injury Specialists Orthopedic, Cardiovascular/Pulmonary, Geriatric, Neurological, Vestibular.
  • Chart review is routinely performed to assess appropriateness of the referral and contraindications for evaluation/treatment.
  • PTs interpret findings from examination, diagnostic studies /medical tests and, during evaluation, select appropriate clinical tests and measures, and then integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care for the full range of patient populations. Evaluative data is used to implement a comprehensive patient treatment plan that is based on current research, education and outcomes data. (Evidence based care.) A physical therapy prognosis is identified.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Other duties within scope as assigned.

Experience Required:

  • Individuals must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited college or university. The CAPTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to accredit entry-level physical therapy programs.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy
  • DEA License
  • For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Medical Technician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Current BLS certification. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
  • Pass a Child abuse and neglect check.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance
